Cover illustration for Italian Author Paul Grunch's Biography book "Il Genio Dimenticato del Calcio Italiano", Which will be published in 2021. The meaning of the title is "The Forgotten Genius of Italian Football".The book is about an Italian famous footballer and coach Carlo Carcano (26 February 1891 -23 June 1965) .
I created a concept illustration for the cover. The client wanted a portrait illustration of Carlo Carcano in vintage style and he suggested to add a monochromic background. his preferred color was yellow. So basically the illustration theme is based on the main protagonist of the book. I sketched his portrait with traditional cross hatch style and later on colored it with watercolor brushes. As the client wanted a minimalistic look i kept everything as simple as possible.
